Understanding frizz...
What causes frizz?
Answer
Frizz is usually not a single problem.
It results from multiple factors interacting with the hair fiber, including dehydration, structural imbalance, prior chemical treatments, and environmental exposure.
Many solutions aim to temporarily seal or coat the hair. While this can improve appearance in the short term, it does not always address the underlying condition of the hair.
The MAVA System focuses on restoring balance to the hair fiber so smoothness becomes more stable over time.
Permanent vs Non- Permanent Smoothing
What is the difference between permanent and non-permanent smoothing?
Answer
Permanent smoothing alters the hair structure so treated hair remains smooth while new growth appears in its natural state. This approach requires periodic root maintenance.
Non-permanent smoothing improves manageability and reduces frizz without permanently altering the structure of the hair. Over time the treatment gradually fades and the hair returns to its natural pattern.
Both approaches can be appropriate depending on hair condition, goals, and personal preference. The right approach is determined during consultation.
Safety and Hair Health
Are smoothing treatments safe for the hair?
Answer
Safety depends less on the treatment itself and more on how and when it is applied.
Hair that is over-processed, highly lightened, or structurally compromised may require protective strategies or staged correction before smoothing can be safely performed.
The MAVA System prioritizes diagnosis before application, allowing treatments to be selected and adjusted in a way that protects long-term hair integrity.
Maintenance & Longevity
The Consultation Process
How long do results last?
Answer
Results depend on the type of smoothing used.
Permanent smoothing remains in the treated hair and requires root maintenance as new growth appears.
Non-permanent smoothing gradually fades over time and can be repeated if desired.
Longevity is also influenced by home care, environmental exposure, and the condition of the hair before treatment.
Why is consultation required?
Answer
Hair history, structural condition, and personal goals vary widely from client to client.
A consultation allows these factors to be evaluated before any recommendation is made. This helps prevent over-processing, under-processing, and unrealistic expectations.
The consultation is designed to determine whether the MAVA System is appropriate and how it should be applied.
